Protein Information
Protein Name | Species | UniProt Accession Number | UniProt Entry Name | Protein Function | Sequence |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Max-interacting protein 1 | Homo sapiens | P50539 (UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot) | MXI1_HUMAN (UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot) | Transcriptional repressor. MXI1 binds with MAX to form a sequence-specific DNA-binding protein complex which recognizes the core sequence 5'-CAC[GA]TG-3'. MXI1 thus antagonizes MYC transcriptional activity by competing for MAX. | View |

|
MXI1 is an antagonist of MYC in that it competes with MYC for MAX [0945]. Mice lacking MXI1 exhibit progressive, multisystem abnormalities and increased susceptibility to tumorigenesis. A role for MXI1 in murine ageing has thus been suggested [0887]. Mutations in the human MXI1 gene have been linked to cancer [0944]. Additional, more detailed, studies are necessary to determine whether MXI1 is related to human ageing. | GenAge |
